In a shocking move, four times Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais replaces Esteban Guerrieri at Sevilla, according to French newspaper l'Equipe. The Frenchman was left without a drive after being ousted at Torro Rosso.
It was expected that Bourdais would return to the US to race for the former team of Dutchman Robert Doornbos NHL Racing. After a European career in F3000, Bourdais moved to the USA in 2003 to race in the Champ Car World Series. He impressed a lot of people by putting his car on pole position in his first ever race in the streets of St. Petersburg. The Frenchman claimed two victories and the Rookie of the Year title, in his first year in Champ Car. From that moment on, he dominated US racing by clinching four Champ Car titles in a row.
Finally being noticed by F1 teams, he moved to Torro Rosso in 2008, but failed to shine for a number of reasons. Bourdais will make his Superleague Formula debut during Round 4 at the circuit of Estoril in Portugal this weekend.
Apart from Bourdais, another Frenchman will return to Superleague Formula, as Franck Perera moves to AS Roma. Perera made his SF debut last year, also at Estoril.
